It’s a change from the norm, as the majority of other hybrids utilize a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Combined output is rated at 227 horsepower, while a traditional six-speed automatic transmission handles shifts. Power for the Sorento Hybrid comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with one electric motor and a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The EX trim adds adaptive cruise control, cyclist detection, intersection assist, and front parking sensors. The suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, vehicle exit warning, and rear parking sensors. Kia packs the Sorento Hybrid with its Drive Wise suite of advanced safety features. Someone could get into this car and get comfortable with it in a matter of 10 minutes - that isn’t the case with many new vehicles. It’s also nice to get to use buttons and dials that are placed logically. The touchscreen’s graphics aren’t as crisp or as colorful as the ones found on the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, but they’re still really good. It’s not the most illustrious list of features, but there’s something to be said about having a car that doesn’t suffocate you with technology. The EX trim we tested came with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, a 4.2-inch display in the instrument cluster, eight USB ports, a wireless charging pad, and six audio speakers. The size of the touchscreen may not impress, but its features will. It’s not the fanciest list of features, but there’s something comforting about a car that comes with easy-to-use tech. For patient people, Kia has made things equal for 2022. It’s like looking at your neighbor’s yard and then coming to the realization that yours doesn’t quite add up. It’s not a bad touchscreen, but seeing the extra real estate available in a regular Sorento leads to envy. Instead, you get a standard 8-inch unit across the lineup. Kia doesn’t fit the Sorento Hybrid with the same available 10.25-inch touchscreen on the regular model. The largest demerit facing the Sorento Hybrid is its infotainment system. Folding the rear seats down results in 45 cubic feet of cargo space, while the most the Sorento Hybrid can hold is up to 75.5 cubic feet of cargo. Behind the third row, there is 12.6 cubic feet of cargo space. Unfortunately, it’s not as spacious as its rivals. Thanks to clever packaging, the Sorento Hybrid offers the same amount of cargo space as the Sorento. The combination of a hybrid powertrain and seating for the entire family is something only a few midsize SUVs can claim. One of the Sorento Hybrid’s main benefits over other hybrids is that it offers seating for up to seven. The SX trim also includes a panoramic sunroof, a power rear liftgate, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, voice recognition and a blind-spot detection system with rear cross-traffic alert. The top-of-the-line SX-Prestige X-Line trim comes with all the bells and whistles including 1-touch up and down windows front and back, heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, surround view cameras, 12-speaker audio system, ventilated front seats and leather throughout. Buyers opting for the EX get dual-zone climate control with separate rear controls, heated front seats, a backup warning system, fog lamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The SX trim rides on 20-inch wheels and several body-colored exterior additions give the SUV a more cohesive look. Standard equipment on the LX includes 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, an HD radio, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls, 6 USB ports, an 8-inch touchscreen, power windows and door locks, heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals and keyless-remote entry. The S trim adds to the features with heated from seats, an 8-way power driver seat, Satellite radio, 2 more USB ports and push button start. The LX still comes with plenty of features to please those who maybe don't want to splurge too much on their new car purchase. The LX may be the lowest trim level for the Sorento, but it's far from just a basic people mover. The front-wheel drive Hybrid Sorento is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder with 227 horsepower as well as a 1.5 kWh lithium polymer battery that brings the total range to 655 miles. The Sorento comes in five trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX and SX Prestige while the hybrid version only comes in two trims, S and EX. All-wheel drive is an option across the entire lineup. Both mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2021 Kia Sorento offers two powerplants-a 2.5L 4-cylinder that makes 191 horsepower and a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes a full 281 horsepower.

The test was done with Mac OS X 10.3.2, Mac OS 9.2.1, StuffIt Standard 8.0.2, StuffIt Deluxe 5.5, Compact Pro 1.33, bzip2 1.0.2, zip 2.1, zip 2.3, and GNU zip 1.2.4. The empty file (“blah”) was created with touch blah. Every attempt to open the archive yielded exactly the same results."Īllume has promised to keep MacFixIt updated with any developments as they investigate this issue.Contestants are sorted ascendingly by size. Stuffit Expander 9 presented some messages about hidden temporary folders it was making and removing during the expansion, which seemed a little odd, and then crashed without completing the expansion. I received a SITX file created by Stuffit 7. "I too have had problems with older Stuffit archives. sit archives, since they may fail or even be corrupted and I have no way of opening them."įinally, Scott Lahteine describes a similar - though possibly unrelated - issue: Perhaps there's a conflicting legacy file from some old stuffit install, or a plist corruption, but I haven't yet found the problem. Strangely, these aren't old stuffit archives created using an older version of Stuffit, but created with Stuffit 9 itself. "I too have encountered the same problem on some. However, reader Nicolas Solberg reports that the issue isn't limited to archives created in OS 9, although the size of the archive does appear to be a contributing factor: The workaround that worked for me was to use Stuffit Expander 9 to completely expand the older archive and then use Stuffit Deluxe or DropStuff 9 to re-archive them in the new format." I would get errors about corrupt archives or files that were incomplete as well as the symptoms Randy described. "I also experienced problems expanding older archives from within Stuffit Deluxe 9.0. I have not run into this problem using version 8 on the Mac."Īccording to reader Bret Laskarzewski, StuffIt Expander 9 can usually expand these older files properly, even when StuffIt Deluxe 9 cannot: I tried 3 different 400 MB archives and the PC version, while finding errors, handled them all. However the PC version deals with the damage and reports it while version 9 on the Mac just gives up and hangs. Randy later sent a follow-up: "I used my PC running Stuffit Deluxe 8 to expand the files. We've received quite a few confirmations of this behavior (or at least similar behavior), although Allume (the makers of StuffIt) state that they haven't been able to reproduce the issue in-house. When attempting to unstuff these archives, StuffIt Deluxe 9 just freezes. Yesterday we covered a report by Randy Smith that StuffIt Deluxe 9 (for OS X) is at times unable to "unstuff" StuffIt archives created using StuffIt Deluxe for OS 9. with the ongoing remote learning in both districts. You'll see some of the usual suspects such as Scratch, AppInventor, and HummingBird Robotics, plus some newer areas (for the middle school level) such as Data Science. Linked hereis last year's summer PD offerings, organized by grade level. Thanks for your kind words and interest in the project! We truly believe that the initial work spent in building relationships with the administrative team was a critical piece in the successes we have had and what kept us moving steadily along during the rocky days of the pandemic. They have teacher leaders that they too meet with monthly to keep communication flowing. We now meet with the administrative team monthly to communicate, plan and stay connected in the work going forward. These foundational structures let administrators see and be involved in the vision building, planning and implementation process. This team analyzed the vision for their pathway and wrote a vision statement, completed an analysis of their current CS program using the SCRIPT rubric and then set both long and short term goals. Each district then completed the CSforALL SCRIPT training where they formed a team which included a district and school administrator, CS teacher, Regular Ed teacher as well as other key stakeholders, such as counselor or media specialist. We also took administrators and teacher leaders to Pittsburgh, so they could see South Fayette and view the pathway they have built and start visualizing what that might look like in their district/school. We started by meeting with each district's school and district level administrators in their own schools to explain the grant and begin building relationships, not just email communication. Gaining administrator support has been a critical point in our implementation process. I'm Traci, the On Site Director for the TAN grant. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have! However, each of our participants had positive feedback and all said they planned to implement what they learned into their classrooms. The App Inventor course was more difficult than it would have been in person since the instructor couldn't look at the participants device or code and it was more time consuming to assess. (Material kits were delivered to the teachers prior to the Institute.) One of the hardest parts of the virtual format was troubleshooting in the sessions that required teachers to write code. This prevented participants from sitting behind a screen all day and kept the workshop hands on. They had time to work on their own to complete the work and then came back together later in the day. Our teachers would attend a session with their instructor each morning where they learned a concept and were given an assignment or challenge. The biggest pro is that even during a pandemic we were able to offer high level courses to the teachers through the use of Google Classroom and Zoom. As the On Site Director for our grant I can see both pros and cons of remote PD. Thanks for viewing our video and commenting. Through focus groups with the PD instructional team and survey responses from the KY teacher workshop participants, the poster will report on the pedagogical implications of offering teacher PD exclusively online and what the ramifications have been for Pikeville and Floyd County children with the return to school in the Fall of 2020. Of course, the RPP faced new challenges with COVID-19-most notably, the need to offer these summer workshops remotely, and adjusting the objectives and research questions accordingly. The second component of the presentation focuses on the development of a series of summer workshops for Kentucky Appalachia K-8 instructors to learn the basics of CS and CT and how to integrate these skills and concepts into existing K-8 coursework. It focuses on the RPP’s origin in leveraging the districts’ existing relationship with Pennsylvania’s South Fayette School District, which has developed one of the nation’s leading programs for teacher professional development (PD) in K-12 computing. First, it reports on the genesis and development of the RPP itself. Economically devastated by the departure of the coal industry, these communities are committed to developing high-quality computing curricula for all students, beginning in their earliest years. This video reports on the first year-and-a-half of a three-year NSF-funded Research Practitioner Partnership (RPP) to develop a K-8 pipeline for computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) education within two rural school districts in Eastern Kentucky : Pikeville Independent School District and Floyd County Schools. ( see original presentation & discussion) Tough as Nails, Nimble Fingers: Developing a K-8 Coding Pathway for Kentucky. I took the day off school, went into Wellington and was first in line to see it. (on the remake of King Kong (1976)): I was 15 when that film came out.Gollum isn't going to be another Jar Jar Binks. I've come to realize that, as much as anything, I am making this for the 9-year-old Peter. No way would a studio think this is the year that people want to see a big gorilla movie. The worst type is dictated by demographics or what is hip or what kids are into. The most honest form of filmmaking is to make a film for yourself. In a way, we were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves. What we were trying to do was to analyze what was important to Tolkien and to try to honor that. We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. Elijah Wood on filming "The Lord of the Rings", December 14, 2003. If there was a way that I had seen something and he had seen it differently, I would. But the Lord of the Rings films are not made for Oscars, they are made for the audience. To get an Oscar would be an incredible moment in my career, there is no doubt about that. And he has used his money on things that benefit every filmmaker who gets films produced. He has made a huge difference to the way films are made now. He got ILM started and they developed all the computer technology we use. What he's done, which I admire, is he has taken all the money and profit from those films and poured it into developing digital sound and surround sound, which we are using today. I think that George Lucas's Star Wars films are fantastic. And then we've stumbled along just taking each day at a time. We somehow went into it thinking we could do it. At the beginning, I don't think anybody had any idea how difficult or complicated it would be. On making "The Lord of the Rings": Looking back, I think we were a bit naive. From my point of view it was always great, because we were heading toward an ending, a climax which we never had in the other two. It is very emotional, and from an actors point of view it is very enjoyable to work on, because they were able to play some pretty intense drama. It is action-orientated as well, but all of our characters have been pushed to a point where their life and death depends on what happens in the third movie. Return of the King is the most enjoyable because in the structure of the movies, it is nothing other than pay-off, there is no more setting up to do, no more exposition, no more introducing characters.I read the book when I was 18 years old and thought then, "I can't wait till the movie comes out." Twenty years later, no one had done it - so I got impatient. : This is a giant undertaking, but I consider this a personal film. I doubt I could ever control myself sufficiently to make a serious horror film. I immediately start thinking of funny things and gags - that's just the way I am. I just can't sit there and think, "This is really scary." If I made a Hellraiser film, I'd like Pinhead to be whacked against a wall and have all the pins flattened into his face. Some guy walking round with pins sticking out of his face. I thought it was quite good, but it was all just so serious. I saw Hellraiser III the other day at Cannes it's okay, it's a good film, I didn't hate it or anything. On horror: I don't take stuff seriously.
